FAQ

How do I know if Hitchcock Family Medicine is right for me?

Please call and schedule a free visit to come discuss!

Can I use my HSA or FSA to pay for your services?

To the best of my knowledge you can. You will need to speak with your plan administrator to clarify.

I have lots of health problems, will you charge me more?

No. Our monthly fees are purely age based.

Do you provide vaccines?

Aside from the annual influenza vaccine, I will likely be unable to provide routine immunizations due to the small number of patients and the large lot sizes for vaccines. I will be happy to work with you to find local low cost places to get vaccines.

How do I pay?

Every month you will receive an invoice of your monthly membership fees and any additional charges for outside lab studies, medications, or equipment. You can pay online directly from the invoice. We can also set up an auto charge every month for your membership fees.

Do I have to pay every month even if I don’t see you?

Yes. Just like a gym membership, you pay every month whether you use my services or not. It's similar to having an attorney on retainer.

What if I need to see a specialist?

Hopefully, with longer unhurried appointments, I will be able to manage most of your medical conditions. I have partnered with RubiconMD to provide specialist coverage at no additional cost to you. In the case where it is necessary for you to see a specialist in person, you need insurance to cover that. I am happy to follow up closely and even visit the specialist with you.

What if I need to be admitted to the Hospital?

I am planning on having admitting privileges at a local hospital. If you are admitted there, your monthly fee will cover my portion of your bill. You will still need insurance to cover the hospital portion. If you are admitted at any other facility in the Chattanooga area, you will likely be admitted to the local Hospitalist service. I will visit with and keep in contact with your admitting physician throughout your inpatient stay.

What if I need to go to the Emergency Room?

If you feel it is a life threatening emergency, call 911. After that call me. I can help coordinate your care with the emergency physicians and even meet you in the ER if needed.

What if I need lab work?

Some labs that can not be completed in our office will be done at Quest Diagnostics. If you choose, you can have Quest bill your insurance just as you normally would. However, we do have cash prices worked out through Quest. You would be billed on your next monthly invoice from HFM at no mark-up. Come visit to see the prices.

What about my medications?

Some medications I will be able to order wholesale and fill cheaper than your local pharmacy. Those medications will be billed along with your monthly fee. If it's easier or cheaper you may continue to use your insurance at your local pharmacy as you always have. Think how convenient it could be to get cheaper medications in the same place at the same time as your appointment without waiting in line!

What is included in my monthly membership fee?

Unlimited office visits including preventive visits, direct contact with Dr. Hitchcock 24/7 via telephone, email, or text. Any procedures or labs done in our office are also included at no additional charge.

Do you really make house calls?

Absolutely.  If in my opinion the situation warrants a house call, I will come to you at no extra charge.

How often can I see you in a month?

As many times as needed.

Are you insurance?

No. Being a member of HFM alone will not satisfy the individual mandate of the ACA. However, it may qualify you for a higher deductible plan. Speak with your insurance professional to find out.

What insurance plans do you accept?

None!

Do I still need insurance?

Yes. While we can handle the majority of your medical issues, there may still come a time when you need specialist care, hospitalization, or other needs we can not provide. In these cases I recommend a high deductible plan preferably with a HSA, or health savings account.
